Setup instructions for the Geiss plugin

  1. Check that your system meets all the requirements. These are:
    • You're running Windows 95 or 98.
    • Microsoft DirectX 5.0 or later is installed. If it isn't, or if you're not sure, you can get the latest version by clicking here.
    • You have a Pentium 166 processor or better. A 200 MHz or faster processor is recommended.
    • You have the latest version of Winamp installed, and a few MP3 files handy. If you don't know what Winamp is, then don't download the Plugin - you should download the Screensaver.

  2. If you haven't already done so, download the plugin installer (GEISS.EXE) from the main page and run it. When you run it, the installer will place the file [VIS_GEIS.DLL] into your plugins directory for you, then display a text file.

  3. Now start Winamp, and go to the PREFERENCES menu by hitting CTRL+P. The preferences box will pop up.

  4. On the left side, under 'plugins', select 'visualization' by single-clicking it.

  5. Then, on the right side, select 'Geiss for Winamp' by single-clicking it.

  6. Click the 'configure' button at the bottom of the window.

  7. When the 'Geiss: First Use' box pops up, read it fully and click on 'I Agree'.

  8. When the 'Geiss' configuration box pops up, change any options you would like, and click 'OK.' You can always come back here later.

  9. Now you should be back to the Winamp Prefences box. Click the 'Start' button towards the bottom (NOT the start button on your taskbar!) to see Geiss run for the first time.

  10. For convenience in the future, a quick way to launch Geiss for Winamp is to hit CTRL+SHIFT+K when Winamp is playing a song.
